❀ BOTANICAL NAME: Lavandula angustifolia
❀ ORIGIN: Lavender has been known since Antiquity and the Romans already used it to perfume linen and baths. From the Middle Ages, it was used in Provence in the manufacture of medicines and perfumes. It is said that Gloves from Grasse, using the essence of lavender to scent leather, were spared the plague which encouraged people to wear lavender.
Its essence, obtained by steam distillation of freshly cut flowers, is often used in Perfumery as a dominant note. In France, Lavender is mainly cultivated in the Alpes de Haute-Provence and Drôme.
